“I love you” means that I accept you for the person that you are, and that I do not wish to change you into someone else. It means that I will love you and stand by you even trough the worst of times. It means loving you when you’re in a bad mood, or too tired to do the things I want to do. It means loving you when you’re down, not just when you’re fun to be with. “I love you” means that I know your deepest secrets and do not judge you for them, asking in return that you do not judgme me for mine. It means that I care enough to fight for what we have and that I love you enough not to let go and walk away.

I still cannot get over this scene. Because, look at Elena’s face when she tells him ‘you’. Although she knows he loves her and he would turn over the world again and again for her, she is still nervous about admitting her feelings. Because this is not just a simple ‘you’. This is Elena’s way of saying “I choose you, I love you.”, without actually saying it. This word holds so much meaning that she just whispers it gently, because no matter what she’s still afraid of Damon’s reaction. She is revealing her heart in front of him and she is scared. Now look at Damon’s face in the second one. He can’t believe it, he’s completely still, his smile disappears and he just freezes. Because he understands what Elena is saying to him, but he can’t accept it. He thinks she’s kidding, he can’t believe he has been chosen for the first time in almost 200 years, that for the first time it’s him. And then they change the focus back on Elena. And she doesn’t say she’s kidding. She isn’t saying anything. She just looks at him. In a way he never believed she would look at him, the woman he loves with his whole being. And she’s right there, and so much love is shining through her eyes. And then in the last gif you can see all those emotions, you can see everything in his eyes - he’s surpised, shocked, amazed and most of all happy - you can see Damon’s happiness all over Ian’s face. And it’s priceless, this little moment is priceless. Because this is the scene where they both admit their feelings for each other without using words. And I don’t know what I should applaud more - the flawless writing, or the flawless acting.

And the most amazing aspect of Damon and Elena’s relationship is that this pure, young 19-year-old girl can make this almost 200-year-old vampire tremble with a slightest touch, she can make him smile even in his death hour, only with a couple of words. And this man, this vampire, who has experienced and seen so much, the one that can show us a waterfall of emotions with a single expression, and can show us his whole sadness, hurt and pain with a single tear, he is so amazed by this girl that he can’t imagine her being miserable. Never. He prefers her happiness over his own. Always. Even though it kills him inside, because this is how much he loves her.
