Day 3 : Your favorite Damon’s quote or quote about Damon (or both). I’ve used 2 quotes about love (2x08 and 2x13) because they can be seen as 2 pieces of the same puzzle. Damon opens up his heart to Elena, telling her for the first time that he’s in love with her. And some episodes later, he’s lost, he feels like he can’t be himself, a “real” vampire…, and Andie tells him that he may have changed because he feels love in his heart again.
For me, both moments are extremely important in the evolution and understanding of his character.

“I think that Damon still doesn’t understand how much he means to Elena. In this scene when he says ‘Just do what makes her happy, Stefan’ he looks tired. Because he thinks that he could never do that. He thinks he could never really make Elena happy. He knows what Stefan has done for her and everything he sacrificed for her. Damon thinks that those things completely overpower the things that Damon does for Elena. Which isn’t true. Damon makes her happy. All the time. Even when he doesn’t realize it. He makes her laugh and smile and he lifts her up when everyone brings her down. Elena loves Damon so much but Damon is still finding it hard to believe. He doesn’t understand that the little things he does for Elena are the biggest things to her. Being human with her will, yes of course, make her happy. Even if he isn’t human with her though, she’ll still be just as happy. Because no matter what Damon is, human or vampire, he’s still Damon. He’s still that funny, handsome, strong and caring Damon that she knows and loves. I guess I just want him to stop thinking that he isn’t good enough compared to Stefan for Elena. Because after all, when it comes to true love, it’s those little things that count.”

I wonder when exactly he switched from missing it most, to it being the last thing he’d ever want.
